blackiron logo design wins!

blackiron is proud to announce that our logo design for our client, Arch Lofts by Windmill Development Group, has won! Arch Lofts beat out over 1,300 North American competitors to become an NAHB Silver Winner for Best Logo Design at the 2018 National Sales & Marketing Awards!
The National Sales & Marketing Awards highlight the year’s most outstanding work in residential real estate sales, marketing, and design. 
The Arch Lofts condo project is an adaptive re-use of an old church and its connected building. Some architectural elements of the church will be kept including the big arch windows, which was blackiron’s inspiration for the name and logo. The development is in an area of Toronto called Junction Triangle, an older neighbourhood going through gentrification, while maintaining an edgy authentic feel which appeals to artsy/urban professionals.
The neighbourhood is a triangle surrounded by railway lines and a main artery on the city’s cycling network, providing easy access to lots of transportation options. A prominent pedestrian bridge was recently built over the railways one block from the building, which provided further inspiration for the name and logo – the bridge being an arch that connects the neighbourhood to the surrounding communities.
blackiron was challenged to create a black and white logo that conveyed an “Authentic, modern, heritage with a sense of connectivity to the neighbourhood”. The graphic elements of the logo were inspired by the architectural arches in the church, the shape of the nearby pedestrian bridge, the functionality of the bridge, and the shape of the bridge support braces.
