Rekindling some love for local business

When pandemic lockdowns created some distance between Ottawans and local businesses, Ottawa Tourism asked blackiron to help reignite the passion with a  three-pronged #MyOttawa Local’s Guide campaign in the spring of 2021.

The ultimate goal was to create a handy list of Ottawa attractions that locals recommended the most, giving future visitors some valuable grassroots insights into the best that our city has to offer.

To get there, we designed the campaign’s visual identity, then went into digital outreach mode, asking locals to nominate their favorites across categories including food and drink, entertainment, nature, and culture. Our strategically placed digital callouts and nomination-gathering web page at ottawatourism.ca did the trick. We received a boatload of nominations across the categories.

Next, we needed to anoint the top five recommendations in each sector using a wide-scale voting campaign. Once again we asked Ottawa peeps to select their favorites on a special page on the Ottawa Tourism website. Response was very healthy, to say the least, as thousands of voters chimed in.

Finally, with the results tallied, we helped celebrate the winners and shared designed graphics that the top five vote-getters in each category could use to promote themselves. When the dust settled, the comprehensive results were there to behold at ottawatourism.ca. 

Response to the #MyOttawa Local’s Guide was so strong that we hope to see it again next year!
